For those of you whose sense of adventure outweighs their love of creature comforts (i.e. not me, alas!) here's some rather alternate accommodation near Pierrefonds. A fan named Arie brought this to my attention via the website, and called it 'remarkable'! Obviously you need to be mobile to make use of it, but here you are: le Nid dans l'arbre, which Arie tells me means 'the night in the tree'.

Yes, we're talking tree houses in an oak wood near Pierrefonds! You can find their website here. There doesn't seem to be an English version of the site, but it assures me, via Google Translate, that you can forget in complete safety the laws of gravity. Hurrah!

Google Maps places them here.

What larks!

I had a lovely day at West Ham today for the Celebrity Soccer Six Tournament, with [info]asifidletyou and many other lovely Merlin fans. I glimpsed a few familiar faces, but alas didn't have the chance to say hello to more than one.

Unfortunately the team didn't get further than the semi-finals, and the guys were really gutted about that, but I think a good time was had by all. The team were very generous with their time and attention, coming over to the fans in the stands before and after every game. Heaps of autographs and photos and love shared. I can't speak highly enough of their generosity.

I took photos, which I've now uploaded to Flickr in a set here. If you go through them in order, there's a bit of a running commentary, which mainly consists of me apologising for taking so many of Rupert stretching his hammies. But you know. What's a girl to do?

Please note! The photos in this post don't contain spoilers, but the photos on Flickr include shots of a couple of fifth season actors.

Here are some of my favourites, as a taster...

Eoin's hair was looking very pretty. And he wasn't looking too shabby himself, either.

Some friends and I have been slowly working on a new fannish website in honour of the awesomeness that is Rupert 'Fabulous' Young. You can find it here:

Please drop by and have a browse!

It's very much a work in progress. Among other things, however, you'll find out what Rupert's birthday is, what the F stands for - well, other than Fabulous, obviously! - and even a little bit about a pilot episode of a new show that Rupert filmed with our own Jeremy Webb (though alas nothing has come of that yet).

It felt right to launch a site for this gorgeous man on the first day of the lusty month of May... but also, his birthday is coming up soon. And we thought it would be marvellous if he was inundated with your good wishes, whether that's via a card sent to his agent, or a Tweet, or anything (well, anything safe and relatively sane!) that you'd care to do.

Go on... Because he's worth it. :-) And so are you! ♥

Three of the Merlin Knights - Rupert Young ♥ (Sir Leon), Tom Hopper (Sir Percival) and Adetomiwa Edun (Sir Elyan) - attended the MCM Expo in Birmingham on Saturday 31 March. They were available for autographs much of the day, offered photo opportunities, and took part in a short panel. And I was lucky enough to be there!

I arrived a bit before 11, and the autograph queue was already in full swing. So I queued... Rupert was the first on the table. He was his usual delightful self. I complimented him on his recent turn as Prince Albert in The Charles Dickens Show on BBC2. (I have a bit of a thing for Prince Albert, so this was guaranteed to make me swoon.) Rupert seemed rather relieved when I assured him I hadn't actually stayed up to watch the original broadcast at 3:30am, but instead caught it on iPlayer (well, on [info]gealach_ros's journal actually!). He knew I'd be interested that it was directed by Metin Huseyin, who also directed three episodes of Merlin in 2009.

Rupert asked if I'd be going to Pierrefonds this year, and I said yes. Tom was next along the table, and he picked up on the Pierrefonds thing. I confirmed I'd be there, and apologised if he found it a bit of a pain. Tom kindly replied that he enjoyed us being there, and said he likes chatting to people. But he went on to add that that's partly because the knights have so much more spare time than Colin or Bradley. I thanked him, and I also thanked him and his girlfriend Laura for their tweets. I said it was a lot of fun to follow them. He seemed pleased, and said, 'We try!' [to be fun].

Filming for the fifth season of Merlin began on 12 March. Hurrah! I will use this post to keep track of the locations we hear about during the year.

And a friendly reminder to my fellow Locations Geeks... who are a very considerate bunch! All mention of specific season five locations should be hidden behind an LJ cut, or discussed in a post's comments. This is for the sake of our fellow fans who wish to remain spoiler-free. Thank you, all!

This page lists any public events or conventions at which we know Merlin cast or crew will appear, along with any theatrical appearances.

We'll keep this information as up-to-date and correct as we can, but of course it's always worth checking the official sites before making any firm plans. Also, when cast or crew plan to attend events, this is always subject to their work commitments which of course must take priority.

Thanks are forever due to our Research Geek [info]gealach_ros and various Locations Friends for the heads-up.

This community, the website, and indeed the whole Merlin Locations thing, grew quite randomly. For me it all started with a visit to Puzzlewood and Speech House Lake on 25 April 2009; I fell in love with both in different ways. I thought that only a few people might share my interest in these places - not only for their own sake, I mean, but as filming locations for our beloved Merlin. I was astonished and happy to be wrong about that!

From there I investigated the obvious locations such as the Chateau de Pierrefonds, and also other more obscure locations when prompted by clues in DVD extras such as the video diaries or by information provided by fellow Locations Geeks. It was all pretty random. But I always thought we should at some stage start at the beginning, and go through the episodes in a more systematic way. Also, it seemed that people enjoyed my weekly updates on each episode's locations during the third and fourth seasons. Hence the first of these 'rewatch' posts on the website.

You can view the post here. But please be warned it's very very image-heavy!

Got it!!! but with lots of CGI all round it.

To me the CGI looks like they've used a bit of St Donats cliffs and also Trefil quarry and loads of greenery but lets not worry too much about that.

spoiler because members of the cast are identified in photographs )
